We are excited to partner with the Seamus Gee Legacy Project, which supports local students to access Trades programs, as well as community and school sports programs.

We are very happy to announce this years recipient of The Seamus Gee Memorial Trades Bursary, please join us in congratulating Cory L!
Cory will soon be starting the ITA Train in Trades Carpentry program through the Langley School District. After discussions with the selection panel Cory seemed to be a fitting recipient as he also seems to possess many similar characteristics that Seamus had as well. Cory has a passion for carpentry and this will allow him to pursue his chosen career path. Congratulations Cory, we wish you well in your future endeavors!

Prevention and Safety Plans

1/12/2022

Picture
Encompass is open and running modified services and programming. We are working to support our staff, community and clients through a complex time. We have also transitioned from COVID-19 Safety Plans to Communicable Disease Prevention. This transition includes maintaining the measures that have kept our program spaces safe and open.
Click here to download our COVID & Communicable Disease Prevention Plan
As we move forward through this journey, our agency will continue to take thoughtful and cautionary steps to ensure we are not increasing any health risk to our employees or the community in which we support.

The purpose of the Safety Plan is to provide information to staff, clients, and members of the public about the key steps required to prevent the spread of viruses.
These are living documents and will be reviewed and revised as needed.

Feather Fundraiser: Every Child Matters

10/5/2021

Picture
Thank you for taking part in this small initiative to raise awareness, to commemorate the Residential School experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.

With support and feedback from our collaborative partner, the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society, we will be directing the proceeds of our Feather Fundraiser to the Indian Residential School Survivor Society (IRSSS). The IRSSS is a provincial organization based in Vancouver with a twenty-year history of providing services to Residential School Survivors.

Thanks to the generous donations from partners, staff, and community members, we will be donating over $6,000.00!

The Indian Residential School Survivors Society began in 1994 as a working committee of the First Nations Summit. Their work includes assisting Survivors with the litigation process pertaining to Residential School abuses and in more recent years expanding to include assisting the descendants of Survivors and implementing Community education measures (Indigenous & Non-Indigenous).

Visit IRSSS online to learn more about their work: www.irsss.ca

Kamloops Residential School Response

6/3/2021

Trigger warning: Residential Schools

We stand in support with our Indigenous friends, neighbours, partners and community members across Canada affected by the discovery of remains of more than 215 children on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School located within the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation community.

We acknowledge this will have a significant impact on all First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities across our country. Taking care of all your relations during this time is of the utmost importance. We honour the lives of the Indigenous children who died in residential schools, the children who survived but continue to carry scars from their experiences, and the families who were forever altered.

With June 1st marking the beginning of National Indigenous History Month, Encompass celebrates the rich history, culture and diversity of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada. Our agency is dedicated to doing the work in our own learning and towards reconciliation.

If you or someone you know are triggered by this event, please reach out and contact the following resources:
  • National Indian Residential School Crisis Line: 1-866-925-4419
  • 24-hour KUU-US Crisis Line: 1-800-588-8717
  • Indian Residential School Survivors Society: 604-985-4464 or 1-800-721-0066

As Canadians we are called upon to take action — to learn, share, and to build a better country together. Here are some resources for settlers and allies:
  • The Langley Literacy Network has compiled a list of resources and actions
  • Read the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and commit yourself to the actions in it
  • Educate yourself. Dig into the materials at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation
  • Take a free course, like this one offered by the University of Alberta
  • Teach your kids. Some good resources here from First Nations Child & Family Caring Society
  • Donate to residential school survivors in British Columbia
  • Contact BC’s Premier: email [email protected] or call 250-397-1715

ESSS Head Office Has Moved

1/26/2021

Picture
Our new offices at 20230 64th Avenue will house our administrative team and our Best Babies, Pregnant and Parenting Youth, Integrated Youth Services and Clinical Counselling programs.

Our 20618 Eastleigh Crescent location will be developed into the Foundry Langley site, which will improve access to quality care for young people ages 12-24 and their caregivers. By bringing health care, substance use services, primary and sexual health care, youth and family peer supports and social services together under one roof, Foundry Langley will make it easier for young people in our community to find the support they need, when they need it.

We appreciate the openness and engagement from the community in this venture. We couldn’t do this without you! For more info email [email protected]

Standing Together Against Racism

6/5/2020

Picture
As an organization, we have always advocated for inclusion and diversity. We are taking this time to pause, to listen more, to speak less, and to reflect. In being allies, we commit to educating ourselves to deconstruct discriminatory narratives, and to truly understand the role we play in this journey working towards change.

Encompass will continue to take action to explore how we work and learn together within an equal and inclusive environment and how we can further our learnings across teams, programs and community.

We commit to stand up to all forms of racism, discrimination and hate towards racialized groups/minorities. To see it, to acknowledge it, to call it out, to impact change, and to expect better. It is a time to stand in unity. Together we are stronger, together we are louder.
