Youth and Family Support Worker

Who We Are
Encompass Support Services Society is an accredited, nonprofit, charitable community services agency that has successfully operated throughout the communities of Langley for over twenty years. At the heart of our work is a desire to support individuals to achieve the highest possible quality of life. We deliver a wide range of innovative, enriching programs and support services to children, youth and families facing significant life challenges. Annually, we provide services to over 4000 individuals and families.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone who wants to make a difference and has a passion for supporting youth and families. A good fit for our agency is a self-directed, engaging and empathetic Support Worker who has clear knowledge, experience and understanding of youth, adolescent development and parenting styles, as it relates to the experience of a youth or family. We are looking for someone who can function independently yet also interface well with our Program Coordinator who oversees these programs. This position will provide comprehensive assessment, and create goals of service to youth, and adults who have been referred to Encompass by a Social Worker or a Youth Probation Officer. This is a great opportunity for a Youth & Family Support Worker who wants to gain more knowledge and experience working with youth and families.

What We Are Offering
This position offers independence and flexibility, both to practice within your areas of competence, and with your work schedule. You would have the opportunity to work comfortably within your own schedule, which may include some evenings or weekends. We provide the administrative support and referrals for you and have a Team to debrief with and be supported by as well as with the Program Coordinator and Manager.. This is a professional office environment in which to meet clients and you will have the opportunity of working with our dedicated group of community-minded individuals as the program grows. Clinical supervision is provided on a monthly basis.

SALARY RANGE: Grid 12 Step 1 - $23.23

ANTICIPATED START DATE: End of December 2020
REPORTS TO: Youth and Family Program Coordinator
CLOSING DATE: This posting will remain open until the position is filled

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Required to monitor youth’s compliance with court orders, which may include (Intensive Supervision & Support, Curfew Checks, and Community Work Service).
  • Gathers information relevant to client’s problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, meeting with providers using a variety of inventories, checklists, and questionnaires. Assess the information gathered to identify client problems, needs, and risks.
  • May provide brief interventions, which may include mediation with the goal of re-integrating and or maintain the youth in their family.
  • Provide support, guidance and problem solving to clients who are struggling with compliance to conditions and report-ability.
  • Develops and implements short-term, issue specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor that will help youth to transition to independence.
  • Support and provide families of youth with mediation and community resources as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree in related human/social services field
EXPERIENCE: 1 year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

OTHER EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • The position requires availability of evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to interact effectively and build relationships with program staff, families, funders, volunteers, community, agencies and other organizations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with families of youth 12-19 years of age; and with at risk youth involved with the justice system, who are at risk of or currently homeless, or who are living independently.
  • Experience or knowledge of issues such as substance abuse, mental health issues, and conduct disorders.
  • Integrated case management and group facilitation skills are an asset.
  • Mandatory Criminal record check 
  • Current first aid certification
  • Provide primary source credential verification
  • Must possess a valid BC Driver’s License, have business insurance and have a reliable vehicle (mileage paid for work use)
  • Must possess a working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word/Excel)
