​Youth Employment Support Worker

The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an experienced Youth Employment Support Worker to join our Youth Employment Team. The Youth Employment Support Worker will be responsible for supporting youth who may experience multiple barriers to employment through facilitating program workshops and providing individual career/employment counselling services to clients; as well as assisting with securing work placement and employment opportunities. The Youth Employment Outreach Support Worker will also provide outreach support to address barriers; and ensure the participants reach their desired outcome of employment according to the program’s timeline by developing a broad range of employment skills and knowledge in order to prepare them for employment. The position further requires the Youth Employment Outreach Support Worker to work with staff across the agency, and to build and maintain relationships with community agencies, businesses and training/educational institutions, while supporting youth with employment and other related skills.

HOURS OF WORK: Permanent – 37.5 hrs per week
SALARY RANGE: Grid 13 $25.66 - $28.53
BENEFITS: As per Agency Policies and Procedures
VACATION: As Per ESSS Policies
ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Market the project to youth through various platforms including but not limited to career information sessions, direct information campaigns and contact with partner agencies; as well as liaising with the agency’s Communication Team to create social media campaigns.
  • Recruit, evaluate and enroll youth into the program and verify participant eligibility upon intake.
  • Conduct client assessment to identify and measure the employment and training needs of all participants.
  • Assist youth in developing an Employment Action Plan tailored to their employment and education needs and interests.
  • Connect youth with any supportive services to address barriers (i.e. counselling, literacy tutor, etc.).
  • Facilitate workshops with a focus on pre-employment skills, including communication, time management, financial literacy, job search, resume and cover letter preparation, interview skills, etc. in an engaging and flexible manner that adjusts both content and approach in response to the needs of the participants.
  • Provide one-to-one case management sessions including: review and revise the Employment Action Plan as appropriate; coordinate Employment Action Plan activities; monitor, support and document participant progress; provide follow-up.
  • Conduct outreach support by networking and building and maintaining relationships with local businesses, public agencies, and training/education institutions; and providing on-the-job support to participants.


Qualifications:

Education and Knowledge
  • B.A. in a related field, plus 1 year related outreach or employment/career counselling experience; or
  • Child and Youth Care Diploma plus 2 years’ experience; or
  • Combination of education and related experience
  • Professional development courses re: job search instruction, career counselling, placement and/or monitoring.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour market information and resources.
  • Knowledge of employment systems and workplace culture in Canada.
  • Direct service delivery experience in community social services sector, knowledge of related Acts; provincial and community resources; and local service providers is preferred.
  • Current Emergency First Aid.

Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with youth program development, career/employment counselling, group facilitation, and outreach, preferably with youth.
  • Experience working with youth, particularly those with multiple barriers.
  • Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues with a commitment to a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with various youth population groups, employers, and internal/external stakeholders.
