The Opportunity
We are currently looking for self-directed, positive, engaging Residential Awake Night Workers to join
our team. Reporting to the Residential Coordinator, the Residential Night Worker will monitor and
ensure the overall safety and security of youth in a collaborative team environment. The program,
located in Langley, is a 24-hour emergency receiving home for youth between the ages of 12 to 19 who
are in need of short-term stabilization.
Residential Child and Youth Workers work with some of the most vulnerable and complex youth in the
care of, or on a Youth Agreement with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Applicants
should be able to demonstrate experience in meeting youth where they’re at, recognition of the ongoing
influence of trauma and disconnection on the youth served and building on youth’s strengths and passions
to create meaning. Delivery of these services must be provided with an understanding of the ongoing
effects of trauma, isolation and vulnerability.

HOURS OF WORK: 4 ON 4 OFF Rotating Schedule
Nights 10:45 pm–7:45am
SALARY RANGE: $21.52 - $23.90 per hour
Grid 10 – Step 2
BENEFITS: Full Benefits –Extended Health, Dental, RRSP (Post-probation)
VACATION: As per ESS policy
ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

Key Responsibilities
- Monitors residents through the night and attends to any medical and behavioral needs that arise
- during the night
- Follow through on direction regarding specific residents left by the day staff.
- Notifies staff of any major problems or emergencies. Responds to emergencies in accordance with
- established policies and procedures.
- Supports residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of the shift
- Ensures that residents follow house rules. Monitors curfew regulations and reports to appropriate
- authorities as required.
- Administers medications to residents in accordance with established policy.
- Ensures that logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.
- Performs light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and
- laundry. Performs minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs. Reports maintenance
- needs to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
Education and Knowledge
- Certificate in a related human/social service Field
- Current knowledge of issues and resources related to youth at-risk, mental
- health, homelessness, addictions, and poverty issues.
- Training and Experience
- 2 years recent related experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
- Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
- Ability to function as an independent self-starter with limited “on-site” supervision
Other Information
- Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ License and have a reliable vehicle with
- business insurance (mileage paid for work use)
